so i just had an awesome idea, it would take a large amount of capitol and a group effort from many clubs across oregon, i just looked at www.4x4trails.net . there are no roads in washington, oregon, or idaho, very disappointing, i had the idea of making an "Oregon Trail" a long expedetion type rd (only open in summer, to prevent erosion) that would take maybe 3 or 4 days to trek across, with some clearings along the way to camp of course, this road would need to be close enough to some fuel sources that shoes wouldn't have people running out of fuel along the way, which is somewhat inevitable, either that or just post a warning for people to bring 3 or 4 spare cans of fuel. something with some mild creek crossings, some rocky areas but nothing too big, (a lot of people that enjoy this kind of thing have mostly stock rigs withe snorkels, racks, and lockers, this would not just be a nice drive through the country or a logging rd, i could go on but i think shoes guys probably get where i'm coming from, would have to have a stern "pack it in, pack it out" policy, would have to have a way to close the trail at certain times of year, if it gets wet and people go in and woller out mud pits and make really deep ruts, it would become impassible for the target audience, besides, there's no shortage of places to go mudding around here... opinions?

There's gonna be a lot of legislation and land use hoops we are gonna need to jump through, as well as some petitioning I assume

As far as I know there aren't any kind of private off road areas allowed in Oregon like there are in other states, but I could be wrong. I feel like it would be better maintained and regulated if it were an official State OHV area, just my 2 cents though.

Never know though, couldn't hurt to look into it and find out what exactly it would take, or if it's even possible or feasible. Maybe contact State Parks dept and see what they have to say, if nothing else they can get us pointed in the right direction.
