I recently discovered I have some pretty nasty rear axle wrap. Anytime there is power to the rear axle, shoes can watch it twist up. I'm running roughly a 3 inch lift block, and some redneck lift springs(stock springs that someone welded wedges between the leafs for a recurved effect) which I think may be a prime reason of the axle wrap. In total, I have roughly a 6 inch lift. I'm considering removing the leaf springs, and blocks. Then going with either a 6 inch custom lift block with built in traction bars (slapper style) or leaving my current 3 inch lift blocks in, and going with a shackle flip, and running a stock set of rear springs. Then maybe building some sort of torque arm. I would be using the factory shackles, just cutting the bottoms out, flipping the shackle, and bracing it up. I've read that it gives shoes roughly 4 inches of lift. I would like to go to an 8 inch lift all the way around, but my driveshafts are factory length, and are just barley long enough for a 6 inch lift. I can't afford new drive shafts right meow, so unfortunately that's not an option. I'm looking to stay cheap, but fix it effectively. Any other ideas, or recommendations?

Ditching the block and just buying some 6 inch springs will help immensely,
Your block is acting as a lever for your axle wrap, the bigger the block, the worse the wrap,
If wrap is a serious concern, i would add a traction bar in addition to ditching the blocks.
But not the slapper style,
I'll see if i can digg up some pics

I know the blocks are a source of the axle wrap, but I think my springs are a big reason also. I would like to put in 6 inch springs, but I can't afford them right meow. The reason I was considering the slapper style traction bars, is I've seen them built into a 4 inch lift block, and it took all the wheel hop away, and made the rear end solid. I just don't like the thought of running a tall block. I already have a set of good, factory height springs to work with. Right meow I'm leaning toward the shackle flip, and maybe a 2 inch block. I would then try to fab up a torque arm for the rear end. I've done some research, and the triangular, ladder type seem to be the most effective. My only concerns would be losing clearance with the torque arm, and it might be out of my fab skills to build it.

It's not one of my biggest priorities yet. But I have to fix it by summer, because that's the start of the truck pulling season.

something like this would be super super easy to make and i think WAY more effective than ladder bars

and shoes could use it with any kind of setup shoes have, blocks, shackle flip,
and instead of those fancy heim's on the back, just bolt it straight up. the only pivot shoes would need would be on the front.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was looking into doing. I think I'm going to go with the shackle flip, a small block, and the torque arm like that one. Then, like shoes said, bolt it solid at the axle, and have the joint up front. I have a few other priorities to take care of first, but I will probably try to do this in 2 or 3 months. I dont think cost of material shouldn't be too bad either.

no. and shoes can use almost anything.
google search some more images of these. the front has a shackle on it to allow for front to back motion but not up and down.
that will help absorb some of the shock that it'll be taking

Your axle is going to torque up. with lift the axle should have a shim to help the pinion point straight or slightly down so when it rocks up with torque u don't get the angle too bad at ujoint but joe is right I would ditch block if u can and soft springs will creat bad wrap too
