I have a 1988 Pulsar NX with the 1.6L and 5spd and the motor craped out a few weeks back and I would like to swap out the motor and I was thinking about a newer motor like a mid 90's meow I know I will need to swap the computer as well but will any just bolt up ??
Thanks

not sure which engine yours has, but from searching it looks like the CA16DE
cant remember what the CA stands for but the rest is 1.6 liter, Dual over head cam, Electronic fuel injection.
there are a lot of possibilities with this depending on how involved shoes want to get.
one of the most common swaps is the SR20DET.
with that engine stock shoes would have more power than shoes would know what to do with.
however the T stands for turbo.
shoes could get the standard SR20DE and still have tons of fun and it would be a simpler swap.
one thats a little less money would be the SR18DE/DET it all depends on how involved shoes want to get.
i really fought not putting a cam in my 87 stanza because its just right there on top.
pull the valve cover and the timing cover. loosen the timing belt. presto chango.
shoes would obviously have two cams to get if shoes decided but dont go too big or shoes'll lose all your bottom end.
but if its your main transportation and shoes're just looking to get it back on the road i'd look for an SR20DE.
should bolt right up and shoes might not even have to change the computer. but thats your call.
